Los Angeles Rams second-year running back Cam Akers ruptured his Achilles while training for the upcoming NFL season, per a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Tuesday morning.

The 22 year-old was the leading rusher for head coach Sean McVay’s squad this past season, posting 625 yards in 13 games.

Akers underwent further testing to confirm the injury, ESPN’s Adam Schefter later reported. There was only a week until the team’s training camp, and he’s now expected to miss the entire 2021 season.

The Rams could now be thrusted into the running back market, as Darrell Henderson, Xavier Jones, and Raymond Calais now comprise the team’s rushing corps. Henderson rushed for 624 yards in 2020. Jones and Calais are yet to appear in an NFL regular season contest.
